Geraldton Softball League is still wide open as just four points separate the men’s A division teams, with every team occupying top spot at some point this season.

All teams are in action this weekend, with Suiside playing a doubleheader against the Rams and Martians.

They have an opportunity to go top but will be without star Jy Thurston who will go under the knife to repair an injury sustained at the national carnival earlier this month.

Rams player Dion Harrison relayed his excitement about the close season so far.

“This is a big opportunity for Rams to bridge the gap on top of the ladder with the race still open for all teams,” he said.

“Martians, they’ll lose Kyle Watts for a stint due to his injury last weekend and Thurston will be a big loss for Suiside.”

Suiside coach Dylan Percy knows the state of the last few games of the season.

“Unfortunately, we have some players out with injury which hurts the team but that just means the rest of us have to play harder,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge and up for a tough fight ahead.”

Rams will be without Shane Clark and Fletcher Harrison but coach Dean Pascoe is confident of their depth.

“We will fill those spots from some depth we have in our second division and I think we will be competitive again and confident we can come away with another win,” he said.

In the women’s games, the table looks more set with Midwest Marlins having an impressive lead over Pi’s, but with stars Janelle Phillips and Natalie Wisewould back in the team, Pi’s could still make a run to grab top spot.

Pi’s take on Suiside and will go in as heavy favourites while Marlins will take on the Martians and with the Purcells (Zoe and Taryn) firing them to big wins last week will be confident of continuing their good form.

In the second division, Marlins take on Blaze as Martians Red go against Rams White and Martians Black face Suiside.

For the women’s games, Marlins took on the Blaze on Wednesday while Martians Black have a doubleheader against Blaze, and Suiside.

Martians Red will take on the Rams to round out the weekend.
