Aboriginal women’s cricket team make Geraldton sporting history

Bluff Point’s women cricketers made history at Wonthella last Saturday after being crowned inaugural Young Motors T20 champions. Towns, who batted after captain Pam Micke won the toss, made 9-37 with Ruth Vorster retiring hurt and taking no further part. Yet Bluff Point made hard work of the chase, losing wickets and scoring slowly. Towns’ innings was a mess. Kirsty Geuer, with five, was top scorer as there was limited resistance against a competent attack, led by Pointers captain Kavita Pepper (1-3 off 4 overs). Bluff Point were 4-17 in reply with Kavita Pepper, palpably leg before to Geuer (2-5), among the outs. Also gone was Papertalk, superbly held by Micke running hard from midwicket. Cross (16no) and Bev Drage added a vital 17, ended when Drage was bowled by Tarni King (2-6). Bluff Point was 5-34 but Cross and Rikki Papertalk calmly finished off to win the flag.
