AFL Mid West round 24 wrap: Jaeger O’Meara and Jack Martin only Mid West players who will take part in finals

Dongara’s Jaeger O’Meara and Geraldton’s Jack Martin are the only two Mid West AFL players whose 2025 season remains alive and will be part of finals actions. Round 24 brought the season to an end for the majority of Mid West players on AFL club lists, with their thoughts now turning to exit interviews, the off-season and their playing futures. O’Meara collected 11 disposals and three tackles on a wing in Fremantle’s thrilling 16-point win over the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Sunday that cemented its finals berth. He also helped curtail the impact of Bulldogs midfielder Ed Richards. Fremantle finished sixth and will play either Hawthorn or Gold Coast at Optus Stadium in the first week of finals. Martin kicked one goal and had 13 disposals and seven marks in Geelong’s 9.10 (64) to 14.19 (103) win over Richmond at the MCG on Saturday. After finishing second, the Cats will face Brisbane in Melbourne. Northampton’s Patrick Cripps ended his 2025 season with 28 disposals, five tackles and three clearances in the Blues’ 13.12 (90) to 8.8 (56) win over Essendon last Thursday night at the MCG. His 2025 campaign, where he averaged 24 disposals, was down on his Brownlow-winning season last year, when he averaged 28 disposals. Geraldton’s Judd McVee had 17 disposals, three marks, five clearances and 396 metres gained in Melbourne’s six-point loss to Collingwood at the MCG on Friday night. West Coast capped off a forgettable one-win season with a 67-point belting by the Sydney Swans at home. Northampton’s Jamie Cripps kicked one goal and had 14 disposals, five marks and 320m gained, while Geraldton’s Liam Ryan was goalless but had 11 disposals and seven marks. Tyler Brockman had a quiet game with six disposals. Uncertainty remains over where McVee and Ryan will be playing next year, with both fielding interest from other clubs.
