Alleged Geraldton beach pervert charged for obscene act in public near foreshore

A 33-year-old Geraldton man who allegedly performed an obscene act in public while watching two young girls swim at a popular local beach has been arrested and charged. Geraldton police will allege the man was standing on rocks at Geraldton Foreshore near Forrest Street when he committed the obscene act in public on Monday afternoon. He was apprehended at the scene and later fronted the Geraldton Magistrates Court where was granted bail. A witness who reported the crime to police claims she saw a man up on the rocks when her family arrived at the beach just after 4.30pm. Walkaway resident Denise claims the man was staring at two young girls who were in the water opposite The Jaffle Shack. “We thought he was a parent,” she said. “We thought he was keeping an eye on them.” Denise said she was then shocked to see what appeared to be the man masturbating with his pants down below the waste. “I started yelling at him and he took off,” she said. “He had been watching the young girls the whole time.” Denise said it was a terrifying experience for the two girls, who did not look older than 12. “They got really distressed,” she said. “They were scared and crying. “You read a lot of stuff about this kind of thing, but I never thought I would witness it. “It gets me upset just talking about it.” The 33-year-old man will next front court on New Year’s Eve.
