Alleged stabbings force highway closure in Geraldton

A section of highway in Geraldton was closed last night after two people were allegedly stabbed.

North West Coastal Highway between Sixth and Eighth streets in Wonthella was closed in both directions after the incident, which happened about 10pm.

Police said a 17-year-old Wonthella girl was stabbed in the upper chest and a 24-year-old Geraldton man was stabbed in the shoulder, following an altercation.

Both were treated at Geraldton Hospital for what police believe were minor injuries.

Forensics officers from Geraldton attended the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident.

In what was a busy Christmas Day for Geraldton police, a man was also charged in relation to alleged drug possession and a boy charged over an alleged burglary and theft at a caravan park.

A Wonthella man, 35, allegedly approached police at the North West Coastal Highway incident in Geraldton last night.

He was searched and allegedly found carrying four clipseal bags containing cannabis and one clipseal bag containing methamphetamine.

He was charged with two counts of possession of a prohibited drug.

A Kinross boy, 13, has been charged with burglary and stealing in relation to an alleged burglary and theft at Belair Gardens Caravan Park on Christmas Day.
