Arc Infrastructure repairs damage to train line after iron ore wagon derails near Mid West town of Canna

Operations have resumed after a rail freight company repaired damage to a train line in the Mid West at the weekend. Train operator Aurizon suspended iron ore movements last week after a train derailed in the Mid West. On Friday, July 19, two wagons on an iron ore train derailed in the Mid West town of Canna, not far from the Leda Train Station. Rail freight operator Arc Infrastructure confirmed crews repaired the damage to a section of the track and two turn outs at the weekend. On Friday, an Arc spokesperson said repair work was underway. “The line is closed while Arc teams carry out repair works and is expected to reopen on the weekend,” a spokesperson said. Train operator Aurizon is investigating the cause of the derailment. Operations resumed on Sunday. A spokesperson confirmed there were no injuries to train crew. “A wagon on one of our iron ore trains derailed in the Mid West between Canna and Leda,” the spokesperson said. “The cause is still under investigation.” Offszanka Road was closed at the railway crossing but has since reopened.
