Art depicting home and perspective of land by local and international artists on display in Geraldton

Art focusing on the idea of home and the perspective of land is on display at Geraldton Regional Art Gallery as part of two new exhibitions. The displays were officially opened on Friday, April 26, with each focusing on a different theme. REMOTELYCLOSE includes displays of different media, black-and-white photographs, and a short film presentation showing the work on the road. According to the gallery, the exhibition depicts both the highs and lows of leaving home It tells the stories of artists Caroline Furque and Stephen Eastaugh, who each have their own experiences with relocation. According to the gallery, Furque has captured and connected with different people in a range of settings while travelling around the world. Meanwhile, Eastaugh has travelled to more than 100 countries, and has had studios set up around the world including in the North Pole and the Sahara Desert. Living Landscapes shows different perspectives of land, including traditional European, First Nations, and contemporary works. According to the gallery, the exhibition discusses people’s use of the land, the impact on the environment, and responsibility for caring for the Earth. Living Landscapes is curated by Ingrid Horn, who has curated several local exhibitions and was a co-judge of the Gascoyne Art Prize in 2021 and 2023. The exhibitions will run until Sunday, June 23.
