Athletes battle it out in tough double and triple triathlon series event

This week’s Triathlon saw the first double/triple-up series event providing a gruelling challenge of trying to manage back-to-back triathlons. The short and long courses featured back-to-back triathlons which made for some frantic racing between the three disciplines of swim, bike then run. The long course consisted of three rounds of the enticer course, with high winds providing a tougher challenge on the bike but cooler temperatures making for some fast running. The standout battle in the long course was between Gerard Grant and Byron Clarkson. The two have been putting in some big training for the upcoming Ironman race in Busselton and it showed with some fast racing. All day Clarkson would lead from the swim/bike with Grant finally prevailing for first place 15 seconds ahead with a time of 1:23:15 in the back of some very fast-run splits. The short course consisted of two back-to-back triathlons. The male course was won by young gun Mathijis Travasso, with Josh Arnott a close second. The female race was won by Petrina Wakelam, with a great all-round performance in 1:08:21 and closely followed by Fina Dethlefsen in 1:10:14. The enticer course male winner was Jack Ivey 33:16, with Rob Grazziadelli second in a very respectable time of 34:07. Tennesse Forrester came first in the female race with a time of 28:21, with newcomer Jacqui Mclean next over the line. The next race will be the second round of the club championships on November 27.
