Australia Post deliver 1600 books to children in remote Aboriginal communities in the Mid West-Gascoyne

A total of 1600 children’s books have been delivered to remote Aboriginal communities in the Mid West-Gascoyne region as part of a nationwide partnership supporting access to educational tools. Through the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) Book Supply program, Australia Post has delivered 500,000 books to communities in regional Australia, with WA receiving 138,000 books. In the Mid West and Gascoyne, 1600 books have been delivered to communities surrounding Geraldton, Coorow, Three Springs, Meekatharra, Carnarvon and Exmouth. The program aims to provide children with engaging, culturally resonant stories that encourage reading. More than 50 per cent of books in the supply packages feature Indigenous authors and illustrators. Since 2020, Australia Post has delivered more than 100,000 books each year through the ILF partnership to more than 400 Aboriginal communities and schools. Australia Post CEO Paul Graham said it was important to reach every community in Australia and support the delivery of essential educational resources. “By leveraging our delivery network, culturally appropriate books reach children in remote communities, helping to foster literacy and a sense of connection to language,” he said.
