Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event at Geraldton’s Skeetas restaurant raises funds for cancer research

Friends and family of the late Chris Simms gathered at Skeetas restaurant on Mother’s Day to take part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, while reconnecting and honouring her memory. Mrs Simms, a former Bluff Point resident, died last year at her home in New Zealand following a short battle with cancer. She worked as a nurse at Geraldton Regional Hospital and raised four children with her husband Barry. The event raised funds for the Cancer Council and gave attendees a chance to reflect, reconnect and celebrate the life of their loved one. Almost one in two Australians are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85. Investment in cancer research has helped improve cancer survival rates from 49 per cent in the 1980s to 71 per cent today. There are thousands of morning tea events held across the country during May and June, raising millions of dollars for research into and to assist people impacted by cancer.
