B52s in all but one grand final as Demons hope to unleash hell to claim victory
It’s finals time in the Geraldton water polo season with the B52s represented in nearly all grades as Demons await in both men’s and women’s A-grade finals.
In the women’s A-grade competition B52s have dominated every week, with their only loss being on a technicality.
For B52s, Tenielle Hawke has led the goal leader board since game one, finishing the regular season with 37 individual goals.
Jazmin Cocking has been the star for Demons, with her equally impressive 27 goals to her name, but Demons have not managed a win against B52s in their previous four matches this season.
They have powerful players like Abbie McDonald, Sian McDonald and Kobi Toomath, meaning the Demons should never be written off.
But the B52s are a force to be reckoned with. Alongside Hawke the team boasts a line-up of Ellie Pead, Evie Prout and Aimee Horsman all impressing this season.
In the men’s A-grade, it was Demons who proved the better side across the regular season, beating B52s in their last three encounters to win the minor premiership.
Corey Smith consistently proved his worth for B52s with a total of 25 goals across the season with Kurt and Drew Tunbridge, Nic Pead and Leo Prout all solid for the B52s this season.
Demons have their fair share of firepower in Lachy Toomath and Jack Cocking, but this match may very well come down to defence.
Drew MacGregor has been outstanding for Demons, with one of the lowest average goals conceded of any graded keeper.
Jack Deschamp has also proven himself more than capable for the B52s in goal.
MacGregor couldn’t hide his excitement when spoken to earlier in the week about the upcoming final.
“We are looking forward to it, we play all year towards this game so looking really forward to the day,” he said.
In the B-grade women’s game, B52s take on Rats after Rats took down second-placed Demons in the prelim.
It’s difficult to see anything other than a B52s win, especially considering the 25-point gap between the sides in the ladder.
Hailee Horsman, Evie Prout and Julia Gourley have all been formidable in front of goal for the B52s.
The B-grade men’s game will guarantee at least one premiership for B52s as the B52s have a derby against the B52 Relics.
Leo Prout and Jack Deschamp have put away dozens of goals between them and will give the Relics players a lot of trouble in front of goal.
The Relics will be relying on Brendon Jones in goal, who has been a consistent star performer for the side.
In the C-grade games the men’s B52s White take on the B52s Blue and in the women’s, Rats Orange go against Rats Black.
White and Orange have had the better performances through the season and should be favourites.
