The Divisional Returning Officer spun a cage full of wooden balls before a blindfolded staff member drew each out in turn to see which positions the seven candidates for Durack occupied on the ballot paper.

Two of the seven candidates for Durack were present at the draw in the Australian Electoral Commission’s Geraldton office at noon on Wednesday.

The candidates in ballot order are Melissa Price (Liberal) 1, Gary Mounsey (Western Australia Party) 2, Grahame Gould (One Nation Party) 3, Johani Mamid (Greens) 4, Sharyn Morrow (Labor) 5, Brenden Hatton (United Australia Party) 6, and Scott Bourne (Nationals WA) 7.

Returning officer Sandra Nairn had the declaration witnessed and left immediately to arrange for the ballot papers to be printed and transported to pre-polling centres from Merredin to Kununurra in time for pre polling.

People in Geraldton can cast their vote from Monday at a pre-polling centre to be established at Northgate Shopping Centre in Chapman Road.
