Banned thief got the boot

A serial shoplifter banned from entering Geraldton was arrested after being found hiding in the boot of a car which led police on a car chase in the city. Mount Magnet woman Jessica Curley, 34, had bail conditions not to enter Geraldton after being jailed for eight months last year for stealing from local businesses to support a meth habit. About 1pm on Sunday, Geraldton police tried to pull over a man, also from Mount Magnet, on Pass Street with cause to search the car. The man is alleged to have recklessly driven through the Geraldton Aquarena carpark in an attempt to avoid police. Police stopped the driver of the Holden Commodore and searched the car, finding the mother of four in the boot. Police charged Curley with providing false details, obstructing police, and breach of bail. She appeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, when the breach of bail charge was dismissed, and she pleaded guilty to both other charges. She is to reappear on March 22 for sentencing. A man, 35, is due to appear in court on April 8 on driving-related and drug charges.
