It is a marquee round in Geraldton softball this weekend as the men’s sides look to grab hold of the minor premiership race.

The teams have been swapping places all season and sit in a three-way tie on points, with only runs separating the sides.

Rams play a doubleheader against Martians and Suiside and will be looking to secure top spot.

Rams’ Dion Harrison was in a confident mood leading into the weekend’s games.

“It’s two massive games this weekend; if we can get the wins we go back to the top with only a handful of games left,” he said.

“The minor premiership and a straight avenue into the grand final is anyone’s, so this weekend’s games are crucial. I think as in any week whoever rocks up switched on can win.”

Suiside have been resurgent of late, with Dylan Percy’s return to the team and to form.

Percy is coming off three home runs last weekend. Cooper Jefferies is also in top form, pitching a shutout against Rams in their previous match-up.

Gareth Coker’s Martians side have been powerful in offence, with Nik Valenti always dependable at bat, though their outfielding has cost them at times.

The women’s division 1’s top spot has already gone to Marlins, with the Purcell sisters and Ava Gould’s consistent performances seeing them add points every week.

Pi’s will look to secure second place this weekend in the match-up against the inconsistent Rams.

Pi’s star player and cricket legend Janelle Phillips was cautiously optimistic going into the last few games

“We are finding form again after an interrupted past few games and are ready to put our best foot forward,” she said.

Martians take on Suiside in the other division 1 women’s game and both sides are looking to spoil Pi’s plans by stealing second spot.

In the second division, Martians Red take on Batavia Blaze while Rams Blue take on Suiside and Martians Black go up against Midwest Marlins.

For the women, Martians Black have their doubleheader against Marlins and Suiside, with Suiside also playing Pi’s.
