Jason Kubler won’t be there — but the organisers of the Geraldton Tennis Club’s Easter Open like to think they helped give his career a push along.

Kubler won the GTC event last year and within months was playing in the first round at Wimbledon and then the second round of the US Open.

And though the Easter Open of 2019 probably won’t draw the numbers it did last year, it’s well worth chasing. There will be a minimum of $10,000 in prizes.

“This is the 84th year of the tournament,” club public relations officer Faraaz Khan said.

“We had 200 players last year and are hoping on 150-175 this year.”

The open, which will be played on 23 grass courts, starts on Good Friday and goes until Easter Monday.
