Bluff Point convincingly won the Geraldton Bendigo Bank B-grade cricket title over Chapman Valley-Northampton at the Rec on Saturday.

CVN’s Nathan Mawer won the toss and bowled and the Pointers scored 6-157.

Openers Peter Maxwell (29) and Scott Hishon (39) put on 70 with both out to Shahid Khan (2-30) before Mark Lucas fell to Paal Simmons (1-19) in a wobble of 3-7.

However, Theo Curtis (26) settled with Paul Warhurst (33no) in a 50-run partnership before Toby Johnson (3-17) took a couple of late wickets.

In reply Rams were never in the game as they managed just 81 runs to fall to a 76-run defeat inside 27 overs

Opening bowlers Brett Marendaz (3-25) and Jason Staiger (2-18) bowled unchanged and superbly and by the time they finished, CVN was 6-43.

The spell also included the run-out of Johnson as none of the top five batters made it out of single figures.

Only Gerard Williamson (23) made headway with Zak Williamson finishing with 13 not out as Malcolm Cross (2-4) made sure there was no rally and the Pointers secured their first Seconds flag since 1969-70.

Marendaz was named the MVP for his terrific spell in the one-sided affair.
