It all comes down to the final round of the Geraldton Cricket League qualifiers on Saturday as Sportsmans prepare to launch a last-ditch assault to get into the finals.

Sportsmans smashed Chapman Valley last week to keep their hopes alive but face a much sterner test this weekend.

They currently sit in fourth, 9.58 points behind Bluff Point who have a bye and will be forced to watch on as Sportsmans hope for a big win to jump into the last finals spot.

It will be no easy task as they take on reigning premiers Towns at their home Recreation Ground.

Towns have the minor premiership sewn up but as they have a bye next week, while their grand final opponent is decided, they will aim to play confidence-boosting cricket.

Sportsmans have not beaten Towns in a one-day match this season and will not only need to win but win big to overhaul the gap.

Due to how points are calculated on runs and wickets, Sportsmans’ best chance for victory is to bowl Towns out first and win by 159 to overhaul the gap.

Fail to bowl them out and it’s a sliding scale: if they take only nine wickets they’d need 179, take only eight and they’d need 199, and so on.

Sportsmans’ highest score against Towns this season is 135 but there have been some low scores this season, which gives Sportsmans a glimmer of hope if nothing more.

The other game is at Mazzuchelli Oval, with Chapman Valley-Northampton to play Wanderers.

Rams will hope to finish what has been a tough season on a high but the Wanderers are in terrific form and have arguably been the form side of the last month.

B-Grade: Wan v Don (GBSC1); Spo v Twn (Wonthella); BP v CVN (Muir).
