Four players shared the Great Northern Football League’s league best and fairest honour as the GNFL celebrated its 60th year.

Railways’ Mitchell Boyle, Brigades’ Jayden Schofield, Rovers’ Jaimon Alone and Northampton’s Flynn Dillon were announced as JJ Clune Medal winners on Tuesday night.

The recipients thanked the family of Jeremiah James Clune, the first ever GNFL president, for presenting the award.

Boyle said the other recipients were “amazing players” who were “highly respected in the competition”, and thanked Railways coach Karl Pirrottina and the back room staff for helping the team reach this season’s grand final.

Schofield said the recipients “couldn’t be prouder” and would “wear (the medals) with pride”.

Alone thanked family members for their support and influence, while Dillon also thanked the football community and said he looked forward to watching Schofield and Boyle face each other in the league decider on Sunday.

The award is selected based on umpires’ votes over the course of the home-and-away season.

The Great Northern Women’s Football League season award was also a shared honour.
