Brendon Claydean Nevill: Bail refused after magistrate finds out man failed meth test on home detention

A 27-year-old accused of breaking into two houses in Bluff Point last year was refused bail because he failed a drug test for methamphetamine while he was on home detention, a court was told last week. Brendon Claydean Nevill, 26, appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court from custody on Thursday on 29 charges, pleading not guilty to aggravated home burglary, attempted aggravated home burglary and two counts of trespassing, and guilty to four counts of breaching a community order. He last year pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine, possessing other prohibited drugs, possessing drug paraphernalia, trespass, and three counts of stealing. Nevill applied for a bail application but it was put off until next month after magistrate Matthew Walton realised the accused failed a drug test while on home detention. Defence counsel Gary Tan told the court Nevill wanted to study at TAFE and had a job opportunity from someone in the community. Mr Walton questioned if Nevill’s aspirations came before his time in custody or while he was in prison, but Mr Tan couldn’t say. The court was told Nevill breached five community-based orders for drug charges and failed a drug test for methamphetamine on home detention. Mr Walton stood the matter down because it was “complex”, adjourning it until Thursday, February 8. Outside of court, Geraldton police allege Nevill entered two homes on Kempton Street in August last year. Police say a man living at one of the homes confronted the accused and he ran from the house, dropping boxes of fuel cell gas canisters on the driveway.
