Buccaneers on double-header duty with new date announced for postponed round 1 clash against Warwick Senators

The NBL1 West has pencilled in a new date for the postponed round one clash between Geraldton Buccaneers and Warwick Senators, bringing double-header action to town in round 10. Announced on social media and the league website, the grand final rematch will be played on Sunday, May 31 with a 6pm tip-off. Earlier that weekend, Geraldton will meet Goldfield Giants on Saturday, May 30. Cyclone Narelle forced the postponement of the much-anticipated season opener as Activewest Stadium was used by DFES as an evacuation centre. With a round two bye, the Buccaneers have had a delayed start to the season, with some opponents having hit the court two or three times across the first two weekends. The rescheduled round one clash sees Warwick Senators face a brutal schedule, hosting Mandurah Magic on Friday night, before travelling to Geraldton to play on Sunday. The rescheduled match also allows new recruit Cooper Creek to play against his old side twice, with the former Senator unavailable for the initial March 28 date due to playing commitments in the UK. Last year, the Buccs edged Warwick 78-81 to claim their second NBL1 West title in three years, with the recently departed Johny Narkle named grand final MVP for a second time. Geraldton will officially open their season this weekend against Perry Lakes at Activewest Stadium, with tip-off at 7pm.
