This year’s Carols by Candlelight has received an early visit from Santa, in the form of a $5000 Lotterywest grant.

The Maitland Park event has been a regular feature of Geraldton Christmas festivities, bringing together local musicians, schools and community groups.

“This generous funding from Lotterywest will enable Carols by Candlelight to go ahead for 2021,” Glenda Boys, chair of the Carols by Candlelight committee said.

“Our committee is so grateful for Lotterywest support.

“This money will provide generators and light towers, security guards, extra toilets, drinking water, hire of sound equipment, and contribute to the Geraldton City Band expenses.”

Carols by Candlelight is coming back from the virtual event hosted last year to a live performance, featuring pieces from the Geraldton City Band, and the Geraldton Primary School’s Specialist Choir and Didgeridoo group.

“Carols by Candlelight is a wonderful event, with parents, grand parents and kids filling Maitland Park with happiness and song,” Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton said.

The event kicks off at 5pm on Sunday with an evening of pony rides, nerf battles, and face painting before carols start at 7pm.
