Cars and motorbikes stolen from Walkaway property, thieves leave own burnt vehicle in victims’ driveway

A family has been robbed of four vehicles after thieves entered their Walkaway property overnight on Wednesday.

The Johnson family awoke to an alert of a fire a few paddocks over from their home which was not a threat to their own property.

They were informed that the fire department had put it out, but at 6am Stephanie Johnson’s friend texted her to say “I think your driveway is on fire”.

At the same time, her husband Taylor was walking inside to tell her to call police after seeing their LandCruiser, ute and two motocross bikes were missing from the driveway.

“You never expect to lose your vehicles, it’s not something you can plan for,” Mrs Johnson said.

The fire resulted from the thieves leaving their own vehicle to burn, which had stolen plates belonging to a Northampton tractor.

The couple drove to Greenough Rivermouth where police found one of the plates from Mrs Johnson’s car and the tracks of all four vehicles in the sand.

The bikes belong to their seven-year-old son Eli, who was meant to be using one to compete in a motocross event this Sunday.

The single cab ute is a work vehicle for Taylor Johnson, a concreter by trade.

“It’s a bit of a blow, now we’re trying to organise our lives for the next few weeks,” Mrs Johnson said.
