Casey Edward Dodd receives suspended sentence for breaching restraining order and threatening cop in lock-up

A man who told a female police officer he would “get her mobbed” after he was put in lock-up for breaching a family violence restraining order protecting his father has been jailed for 13 months. Casey Edward Dodd, 38, was sentenced on criminal damage, breaching a violence restraining order, assault occasioning bodily harm, possess cannabis and disorderly behaviour in police lock-up in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday. The new offending activated two suspended imprisonment orders placed on Dodd two months prior for criminal damage and aggravated common assault. In this case, Dodd threw a barbecue and held his father up to a fridge by his throat because he could not get inside his home. The court was told Dodd, who had a restraining order against him not to approach his father, was withdrawing from methylamphetamines when he sat on the lawn at his father’s address and screamed profanities. Dodd kicked down his father’s fence and assaulted a neighbour in his 50s. Dodd became aggressive in police lock-up and told a female police officer “you have no balls so you can’t talk to me”. He also called her a “c...” and said he would “get her mobbed”. Defence counsel Brad Romano said on the day of the reoffending, Dodd wanted to get his personal belongings when being told to go away set him off. Mr Romano also told the court police had said something racist to Dodd while in lock-up but prosecutor Sgt Ross Gray would not accept those submissions, stating it was not in the material facts. “All I’m hearing is allegations about everyone else but the (offender),” he said. Sgt Gray said the suspended imprisonment was put in place for a reason. “It’s put in place as a deterrent for further offences ... what has he done? Committed further offences of the exact same nature,” he said. Magistrate Matthew Walton said the circumstances were “quite vicious”, but Dodd’s 214 days spent in custody played a significant role in sentencing. Dodd received four months imprisonment for his suspended imprisonment order and another nine months, which was backdated to September 4.
