Works are underway to improve the safety of the Cathedral Avenue and Maitland Street roundabout in Geraldton.

The $232,000 project will increase the radius of the roundabout from 5m to 7m, along with changes to the bike and pram ramps.

Locals are urged to follow detour signs in the area while the works take place between 6pm and 6am.

The State Government Blackspot Program has provided $155,000 in funding while the City of Greater Geraldton provided $77,000.

The works began on Monday and will take around two weeks to complete. The intersection will be resealed in early June.
