Chadd Gordon Staley fined $750 for ‘scuffle’ at Dongara Pub

A man who got into a “scuffle” at a Dongara pub last year has been fined more than $700. Chadd Gordon Staley had been at the Dongara Hotel Motel on November 24 when an argument broke out between his brother and another patron. Prosecutor Sgt. Beau Jones on Monday told Geraldton Magistrates Court Staley had prevented others from intervening in the altercation and had gotten into “scuffles” with several other patrons at the pub. Defence counsel Kate Fry said the 25-year-old maintained the other patron “took the first swing” against his brother and Staley had been trying to stop others getting involved. After viewing CCTV footage of the incident, Staley pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly behaviour in public. Magistrate Angus Hockton said this may have been concerning to those — including bar staff — who had been trying to break up the fight. He fined Staley $750 and ordered he pay $259.30 in court costs.
