Olympic closed the gap at the top of the men’s Midwest Soccer Association league back to two points as they put six goals past Chapman Athletic on Saturday.

Rovers had the bye and Olympic needed the full points to stay in touch for the title race.

Last-placed Chapman Athletic put in a spirited effort, highlighted by Zeke Forrester’s brace, but they were no match for the reigning champions as Olympic won 6-3.

Olympic had six goal scorers, including Paul Johnson who now leads the way this season with 10 goals.

Abrolhos was handed the win over La Fiamma via forfeit — the third time the Reds have had to forfeit a league game this season.

On Monday the women returned for the first time in two weeks as Abrolhos recovered from back-to-back losses before the break to smash Marconi 8-2.

Ava Gould led the way with her first hat-trick of the season, while Emelie Allan had two as Abrolhos solidified their spot in third place.

Nothing could separate Champan Athletic and La Fiamma in a top-of-the-table clash, with the sides drawing 1-all after 90 minutes.

Athletic were without top striker Selina Kiddle, who has scored more than half their goals this season, as she recovers from a broken hand but Monica Sullivan stepped up with her 10th goal for the season.

Surprisingly, the Reds’ goal did not come from Olivia Bidwell — the first game she has not scored in this season — as Maggie Keefe ensured a share of the points.

The draw is also the first time the Reds have not won this season and leaves the two sides separated by just three points with the exact same goal difference.

Olympic and Rovers played out a scoreless draw, with the two fighting out for the last finals spot.

In the Rreserves, Olympic had their first win in five matches with a 4-2 result over Chapman Athletic while Abrolhos won a thriller 3-2 over La Fiamma thanks to a brace from Aldo Mclaren.
