Geraldton teen Glen Brett Calyun in custody over alleged adult shop break-in

A Geraldton teen accused of stealing $1500 in cash from a local adult shop while on bail for unrelated burglary allegations has been remanded in custody. Glen Brett Calyun appeared on Thursday in Geraldton Magistrates Court after being charged with one count each of burglary and commit and stealing. Geraldton Detectives officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Bruce McDonald said police will allege Mr Calyun on Wednesday entered the Nice and Norty adult store, where he allegedly found and stole $1500. The incident was captured on CCTV. The court was told the 18-year-old was on bail at the time of the alleged offending, and is facing several other burglary and stealing charges. Lawyer Georgia Keysers said Mr Calyun had recently moved to Geraldton after working in gardening and landscaping in Carnarvon for about two years. She said there was a potential job opportunity for Mr Calyun in Geraldton, and this would help provide “stability” to his daily routine. Ms Keysers said the teenager was helping to care for his sick father, and was willing to comply with a 24-hour curfew if released on bail. Magistrate Angus Hockton recognised Mr Calyun’s young age and his family commitments, but said he was also concerned about his alleged reoffending while on bail. He remanded Mr Calyun in custody while he was assessed as a candidate for home detention bail. He will appear in court again on May 12.
