City of Greater Geraldton alerts public to roundabout bypass & sand bypassing works starting Monday

The City of Greater Geraldton has warned the community that works on two projects — a roundabout bike bypass and sand bypassing along the Beresford foreshore — will be starting on Monday. The off-road one-way cycle path on the western side of Chapman Road at the Phelps Street roundabout is intended to help northbound cyclists on Chapman Road safely bypass the busy roundabout. Local contractor Redcat Holdings will be constructing a 280m long and 2.2m wide red asphalt path, which will take about five weeks. “With the rise in popularity of bike riding over the last couple of years, providing this missing link in the network will enable cyclists using active transport to commute to and from the city centre to completely bypass the busy intersection instead,” mayor Jerry Clune said. The $292,000 project is jointly funded by the city and Department of Transport through the WA Bicycle Network Grants Program. The council has also issued an alert to the public that the Mid West Ports Authority will be doing sand bypassing works along Beresford foreshore as part of the Northern Beaches Stabilisation Program between Monday and Friday next week. During this time, the port will transport sand from Pages Beach to two sites along the Beresford foreshore to replenish and feed sediment into the longshore current running north along the Geraldton coastline. Work will be held between 7am and 5.30pm and traffic management will be in place to minimise disruption. The city said it appreciated the public’s patience while these works were completed.
