City of Greater Geraldton calls for expressions of interest from artists to create art gallery mural

One of the the city’s biggest untouched canvases will be opened up to an artist or artists to create a new massive mural in a prominent CBD spot. The City of Greater Geraldton is calling for expressions of interest to create a new mural on the back wall of the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery, facing the post office carpark and wrapping around the side wall along Durlacher Street. The City wants the mural to beautify the streetscape near the recently upgraded GRAG Park as part of its goal to include more art in public spaces and enhance the visitor experience. Mayor Shane Van Styn said this would be a huge opportunity for the lucky chosen artist. “Given the scale of the mural and the fact it will be located in such a high-traffic area means this project will make an extremely big impact on the space,” he said. “It is a massive opportunity for an artist to have their work displayed on one of our most iconic buildings. “We know how much our community love and enjoy public art, so we encourage artists to read more about the EOI and help us to add even more vibrancy to our city.” The successful artist will also help train residents, with the plan to deliver a second smaller-scale community mural at a different location to be determined. EOIs should be submitted by the close of business on Friday, August 25. The aim is for the mural to be finished by December.
