Public feedback is sought on a strategy to help ensure the protection and management of the City of Greater Geraldton’s natural coastal areas and foreshore recreational spaces. The new strategy, an update to the existing plan adopted in 2005, will help inform council’s response to the impact climate change is having on our coast. “It’s no secret our beautiful foreshores and popular coastal nodes are really beginning to feel the impacts of rising sea levels and coastal erosion,” Mayor Shane Van Styn said. “More than ever before we need an updated strategy and management plan that will guide how we effectively respond to these changes.” The objectives of the Geraldton-Greenough Coastal Strategy and Foreshore Management Plan are to provide and maintain sustainable access and equitable recreational spaces while improving the resilience of the coastal zone’s natural environment. Community members can read the GCSFMP and provide feedback online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/GeroCSFMP . Hard copies and feedback forms are also available at the Civic Centre and Geraldton Regional Library. The feedback deadline is 9am on Monday, May 15.
