City of Greater Geraldton opens draft Heritage Strategy 2023-25 for community consultation

The public has the opportunity to provide feedback on the importance of preserving the identity and character of City of Greater Geraldton under the council’s new draft five-year heritage strategy. The city has updated its Heritage Strategy 2023-2028, which is open for community consultation, with the plan highlighting the value of heritage to the city’s culture. The strategy provides guidance for the protection, conservation and enhancement of identified places of cultural heritage significance. Mayor Shane Van Styn said the heritage blueprint played a crucial role in preserving Geraldton’s rich culture. “Heritage is something inherited from the past and valued enough today to leave for future generations,” he said. “We know our community is extremely passionate about how we continue to protect our history, so we encourage locals to view the draft document and provide their feedback.” The updated strategy outlines heritage activities by the city for the next five years and considers existing policies and activities, as well as the current economic climate and available resources.
