City of Greater Geraldton orders Batavia Motor Inne demolition
The City of Greater Geraldton has issued a demolition order for the Batavia Motor Inne.
The multi-storey motel on Fitzgerald Street was once the place to be in Geraldton, with an impressive function room, its own nightclub and bar, and spectacular views of the ocean.
Despite sporadic refurbishments over the years, the building has remained disused for more than a decade.
Mayor Shane Van Styn said the owners of the building, Singaporean syndicate Batavia Village Pty Ltd, had 14 days to respond to the City’s notice of intention to demolish, issued earlier this month.
“They have elected not to reply,” he said.
“The City has taken steps to once again issue a demolition notice.
“The last time the City issued a demolition notice the owners applied for a building permit and spent $3 million on rectifying the building.”
The owners have 28 days to appeal the order.
