Many people think Mayor Shane Van Styn often gets his workers to do all the hard jobs for him, but he might have pushed this a little too far with one of his rangers, Daniel Carter.

Van Styn has had two boxing matches against the same opponent, the giant of a man Tomoana Wijohn.

Despite his best efforts the mayor has not managed to get a victory over the man mountain.

So it’s now up to the City of Greater Geraldton ranger Carter to take on Wijohn at Fists of Fury 3.

The mayor is looking forward to fighting an opponent closer to his size saying he’s “happy to pass the responsibility on to Dan, who will get the job done, like all City employees, he takes pride in his work”.

Carter is not fazed by his opponent’s size or experience, relishing the challenge of his first competitive match.

He is one of 10 local fighters who are due to fight on August 13 at the Activewest Stadium in Geraldton.

With 17 fights in total promoter Paul Barrett describes it as a night not to be missed.

“We are going bigger and better, Geraldton has not seen a show like this for some time,” he said.

“The atmosphere is going to be electric, the words spread beyond Perth to Bunbury and as far as Kalgoorlie that Geraldton is a combat sport destination.”

“We’ve got an incredible venue that’s just right for this event I expect there won’t be a vacant Airbnb or hotel room by August 13th, they are coming from near and far for this one.”

Barrett is pleased with his fighter’s progress and gives the local council worker a good chance of conquering the mountain.

“Dan is raring to go and keen to get the job done for his boss, Shane is quite happy to relinquish the smaller guy in the ring role and focus on his opponent Scotty Grieves,” he said.

Tickets are still available from Geraldton Boxing Centre.
