Close scorelines and competitive games were a feature of the latest round of water polo in Geraldton, with a high-scoring draw in the women’s top division and a narrow win for the country week side in the men’s.

The Geraldton Water Polo Association’s Julia Gourley said the tight competition made for entertaining viewing.

“There were many close games this weekend across all grades, which is a fantastic result,” Gourley said.

“It shows this season is going to continue presenting high-calibre action.”

B52’s beat Demons in the men’s A grade, 7-5. B52’s Corey Smith top-scored with four, while teammate Mick Rock got a brace.

Ben Vittino scored a hat-trick for Demons and Bruce McDonald and Lachy Toomath got the other goals.

In the other game, the Country Week Stars composite team narrowly edged out Rats.

Jack Cocking got a hat-trick for the composite side, with Zac Cross scoring two and Vittino, Jack Deschamp and Drew Tunbridge also getting on the scoresheet.

Kye McVee got a hat-trick for Rats, Rhama Evans scored two, and Simon Teakle and Darcy Wiffen got the others.

In women’s A-grade, there were two four-goal hauls and four braces in the same game as Demons and B52s played out a stunning 10-all draw.

Star player Kobi Toomath scored four times for Demons and Tenielle Hawk replied with the same amount for B52’s. Demons Abbie McDonald and Kelsey Mitchell each backed up Toomath’s efforts with a brace and Zoe Sellers and Sian McDonald scored one each.

Amy Johnson and Tenae Leitch each got two for B52s and Keshi McCagh and Emma Smith got the others. In the other women’s A-grade game Serpents ran away with a 12-1 win against Rats.

Jazmin Cocking scored yet another four-goal haul for Rats.
