Colin Henry Dymond: Geraldton businessman given $600 suspended fine for damaging former friend’s truck

A prominent Geraldton businessman has been handed a $600 suspended fine after he was convicted of damaging his former friend’s truck over a land dispute. Colin Henry Dymond appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to criminal damage. Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Birkinshaw said the incident, which was captured on CCTV, occurred at Dymond’s Geraldton home about 6.25am on October 3. The 63 year-old-man saw the victim’s vehicle parked on his front porch, picked up a rock and threw it at the vehicle hitting the front windscreen. The court was told Dymond had asked the victim, who was a former friend and business partner, not to park on his verge prior to the incident. Relations between Dymond and the victim “soured” after a business venture between the pair went south. Dymond was arrested on October 23 by Geraldton police and made partial admissions stating that he “lost the plot”. His lawyer said Dymond was of good character, highlighting his “material contributions” to the Geraldton community including as the current chair at Midwest Yellow Ribbon for Life. He also highlighted the “tragic” circumstances of which the offending occurred, stating that Dymond lost his eldest sister, his nephew and had his marriage collapse in the space of two years. Magistrate Angus Hockton said the incident was “clearly out of character” and that it was the “straw that broke the camel’s back”. He issued Dymond to a $600 suspended fine and granted him a spent conviction so he can continue to volunteer within the community.
