The opponents didn’t arrive for the fight — but they were the winners of the first round.

And with their “no-show”, the pesky corellas showed they would not go down without a flight first.

The Sporting Shooters Association was planning a corella cull at a city sporting club last week.

Just a day earlier, the branches of the trees were lined with the white-coloured squawkers.

But there was nothing the following day as a group of men with City of Greater Geraldton orders to “take ’em out” were ready.

But the “take aim, fire” call wasn’t heard.

A few flocks — each of four birds — circled and teased before heading east.

“They’ve got a good bush telegraph,” one man said.
