Cotton On staff retrieve basket of clothes allegedly stolen from Geraldton store by 27-year-old woman

Police say a woman spent almost an hour inside Cotton On filling a basket with clothing before she allegedly ran from the store while the shop assistant chased after her last week. Geraldton police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Chris Martin alleged on Thursday, at 10.05am, a 27-year-old woman began browsing and picking out clothing from Cotton On for nearly an hour. He said an employee decided to call police and alleged the shopper ran from the store during the call with the basket of unpaid clothing. Sen. Sgt Martin said the employee followed the woman towards Foreshore Drive. “(The) caller has run after her, locating her at the back of the store near the beach. (The) caller has given chase, shouting at the suspect to drop the basket. The suspect eventually dropped the basket and it was recovered by the caller,” he said. The 27-year-old woman was summonsed to Geraldton Magistrates Court at a later date.
