The first privately-operated COVID-19 respiratory clinic in Western Australia opens in Geraldton today, despite only one case of COVID-19 remaining active in the Mid West.

Operating out of an existing GP-clinic in Beachlands, the clinic will assess people who have mild to moderate symptoms and is the second clinic to open in Australia.

The clinic is part of the Federal Government’s $2.4 billion COVID-19 response package announced by the Prime minister on March 11.

The Geraldton clinic was one of up to 100 dedicated respiratory clinics being set up across Australia at a cost of $206.7 million.

People who are not severely ill with COVID-19 will be directed to attend the GP-led respiratory clinic.

Federal MP for Durack Melissa Price said the local clinic was best placed to support people with symptoms while avoiding the risk of infection in other members of the community.

“I encourage anyone in our community experiencing these symptoms to call the clinic or go online to book an appointment,” Ms Price said.
