Racegoers did not let the rain dampen their spirits on Sunday as they turned out at Geraldton Turf Club to celebrate the return of the Northampton Cup after 38 years. Despite the inclement weather, the atmosphere at the marquee was cheerful, with the Northampton locals looking to make the most out of their trip down to Geraldton. It was a great day out for punters and families alike ahead of the Geraldton Cup next month. But after four races — and before the marquee event could be run — organisers decided to call it a day because of the weather and cancelled the rest of the schedule for the day. It is planned to again stage the Northampton Cup next year.
