Mid West iron ore miner and exporter Karara Mining has been subject to a cyber attack.

The Australian Cyber Security Centre said it was aware of the incident affecting Karara Mining and had offered assistance.

Karara operates a mine near Perenjori, from which it transport ore via rail for export through its own private berth at Geraldton Port.

A Mid West Ports spokeswoman said there was currently no disruption to MWPA shipping or operations.

Internet service and fixed wireless network provider Nic Van Namen said he could not say what kind of attack had occurred.

“It depends on what actually happened,” he said.

“A cyber attack could be anything from someone infiltrating security and accessing data, or takedown of services to stop work.

“A cyber attack is normally one of those two things.”

Karara has been contacted for comment.
