DADAA art exhibition at Post Office Lane Lightbox gallery features work from seven people with disability

An organisation providing a link to people with disability and the arts sector is opening its fourth exhibition on Saturday, encouraging participation and development in the local art scene. Individuals was launched at the Post Office Lane Lightbox Gallery on Thursday, featuring a collaboration of artwork from people with disability in Geraldton. The seven artists who participated in the exhibition met on Thursday to reveal the art they’d put so much effort into creating. The DADAA print group provides people with disability and mental illness with a pathway towards art opportunities and is funded by Act Belong Commit. Lauren Perrin has been involved with DADAA for eight years and as one of their original members, she said it was a great opportunity to make friends. “I’ve painted the mural last year and painted with DADAA doing all different prints, been given materials and learning different techniques,” she said. “The painting makes me feel really happy and I’ve made lots of nice friends, we get together and have morning tea and lunches.” Ms Perrin said with the help from printmaker Lizzy Robinson she was able to paint and print a skeleton for the exhibition. “I like that we show each others art and I thank Lizzy, she’s the most beautiful person, really nice and a really good teacher,” she said. “The painting’s my favourite . . . I have a good social life with my friends, they’re caring and honest.”
