Damian Tully appointed new Mid West Ports Authority chief executive
A Geraldton resident with two decades of industry experience has been appointed head of the Mid West Ports Authority, almost one year after his predecessor vacated the role.
Damian Tully was this week named chief executive of the MWPA after acting in the role for about 12 months.
He takes over from Rochelle Macdonald, who was in the role for almost three years before stepping down last April.
The former MWPA general manager and operations and logistics officer brings more than 20 years of maritime industry experience, having executed operations at sea and on shore.
Mr Tully has been acting in the role for the past 12 months and has previously worked as the general manager, operations and logistics at MWPA.
He has already overseen several major projects at Geraldton Port, including the maintenance dredging of the commercial harbour and navigational channel, and the Wharf 4 deck and rail upgrade.
Mr Tully said it was a “privilege” to helm the “fantastic” MWPA team, who have worked to overcome several challenges over the last year.
“Some of these challenges have included a cyclone, COVID, increased trade demands, delivering on a number of key projects, all while continuing to operate safely and efficiently.”
Mr Tully said his focus moving forward would be on continuing to “develop and strengthen” relationships with stakeholders based in the Mid West and beyond.
“This will be critical as we move into a high growth period at the port in order to respond to the increased regional demand for import and export capability,” he said.
“It is an exciting time for the region and the port.”
Ports Minister Rita Saffioti congratulated Mr Tully on his appointment.
“He has demonstrated effective leadership, overseen significant milestones and has become well connected with staff, stakeholders and the community,” she said.
