Dandaragan Shire council grant development approval for climatic monitor to assess wind farm location

A meteorological mast will be erected in the Shire of Dandaragan to help determine the most suitable location for a future wind farm following council approval. The council voted in March to grant development approval for the erection of a 120m tower to undertake climatic monitoring. It will be used to determine where the future Dandaragan Wind Farm will be located, dependent on pre-feasibility studies and approvals. The mast development is estimated to cost $300,000. The steel mast structure will include a guy-fixing system and wind measuring system consisting of six anemometers, two wind vanes and boom arms, occupying 0.02ha of the 1260ha property. It is expected to be erected on Lot 3577 on Gillingarra Road, Regans Ford, but the location is yet to be confirmed. Clearing of native vegetation will be avoided and can be accessed through existing tracks into the property. The motion was carried 7-0.
