D’Arcy Slater and Women in Tennis Foundation Cups wrap up after successful Geraldton tournament

The prestigious 2023 D’Arcy Slater and Women in Tennis Foundation Cups wrapped up in Geraldton last week. Players from across the State travelled to the Geraldton Tennis Club to compete in the annual tournament, which hosted individual and team events. In the D’Arcy Slater Cup boys teams competition, South West triumphed in a close six-game win over Lower Great Southern in the team event. The Mid West region took home the boys teams division 1 consolation event, led by Clifton Bass and Mitchell Dorant from Tarcoola Tennis Club. The division 2 Mid West boys, featuring Reece Partington, Bryce Gabi, Blake Simpson, Tom Piggott and Kallum Goodings, brought home the bronze medal. In the girls competition, Lower Great Southern won over South West. The Mid West division 2 girls side only just missed out on the bronze medal. Albany’s Denby Sharpe defended his individual D’Arcy Slater Cup title, defeating Dunsborough’s Fletcher Braddock. The Women in Tennis Foundation Cup final was won by Albany’s Tea Zizek, defeating Brunswick Junction’s Alifaye Gidgup. Schools and pathways officer for the Mid West, Daniel Bowen, said it was great to see locals get around the event. “It was great to see the community support for one of the largest regional tennis events in Western Australia from the Geraldton Tennis Club,” he said. “The event was also well-supported by local coaches Jarron Kretschmann, Natalie Lama and Tennis West.”
