A homegrown trio went undefeated to win the Kaka Threes at Denison Bowling Club last Sunday.

Danny Hutchcraft, Geoff Izydorski and Adam French were the only side to claim all four matches on the day as a quality field turned out for the long-running open event.

They had a return of three wins plus 24 to finish ahead of the Mullewa side of Vince Knight, Paul Johnson and Nino Messina.

It was the second podium placing in a week for Knight, a two-time Batavia Bowling League player of the year, who also finished second in the Drennan O’Malley pairs at Wonthella a week earlier.

The quality Denison trio of Joel Leeson, Barry Sweetman and Andy Duane were third, finishing the event with three wins plus nine shots in four ultra-competitive matches.

The home bowlers were dominant. The round prizes went to combinations skippered by Phil Davis, Ian Payne, Richie Roberts and Molly Pearse, all from Denison.

Denison club captain Ian Payne said he was impressed with the turnout as the event, now in its fourth decade, reached full nominations. The open ran at a reduced capacity of 14 sides as only one green was available.

The club is converting two of its three grass greens to synthetic, forcing the nomination down from a maximum of 36.

The next Batavia open event is the Young Motors pairs at Geraldton next month.

The event has a capacity of 36 sides and nominations have filled up before closing date.

Championship fours will start at all of the clubs this Sunday ahead of the champion of champions title event at Wonthella on October 28.

The pairs drew a record turnout last Sunday at Wonthella as 36 sides competed.

Wonthella dad-and-son pair Paul and Mike Walton won in an exciting competition.
