Detectives investigating report of indecent assault of tourist by man riding bicycle on Beresford foreshore

Detectives are investigating a disturbing and brazen allegation that a tourist was indecently assaulted in public on a foreshore path by a man riding a bicycle. On Tuesday, July 12 about 4pm Geraldton detectives allege a 27-year-old woman was walking along the foreshore left of Chapman Road near Dean Street, Beresford when she was approached by a 25-year-old man riding a pushbike. Acting officer-in-charge Det-Sgt Simon Harrison said the man allegedly stared at the victim making her feel uncomfortable before groping her right buttock. “The allegation was he grabbed her left breast and tried to kiss her. The victim pushed him away and he rode off,” Det-Sgt Harrison said. Det-Sgt Harrison said the woman reported the incident to the police, but was no longer assisting police with inquiries. “The woman doesn’t want to go any further with it, however, due to the nature of the incident detectives are still trying to track down the accused,” he said. The man is described as a 25-year-old man, dark-skinned, 174cm tall and wearing dark clothing. The description of the bicycle was not reported. Police are appealing for any dash cam or CCTV footage in and around the area near where the Horizon sculpture used to be before exploding last year to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
