Dominic Councillor cops $2000 fine for revenge porn attack

A Geraldton man has been ordered to pay his ex-partner $2000 in fines after he shared revenge porn of her following their break-up. Dominic Councillor reappeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with distributing intimate images of another person without their consent between January 7 and May 18 last year. The court was told Councillor used a Snapchat account with the name “your daddy” to share nine images and three videos of the woman in various stages of nudity to multiple other accounts. Prosecutor acting Sgt Dean Solman said the woman discovered evidence of this when using his computer and lodged a complaint at the Geraldton Police Station on May 29. “They were recorded while the pair were together,” he said. “She did not consent for them to be shared and as you could imagine it’s had a significant detrimental impact on the victim.” Councillor initially claimed his phone had been hacked and “no longer had control of it”, but later pleaded guilty on March 26. His lawyer, Georgia Keysers, said he was now “very remorseful” about the offending and was very depressed at the time. “Things are looking up for him now,” she said. “He won’t be making the same mistake again.” Magistrate Chris Miocevich ordered Councillor to pay the victim $2000 and pay court costs of $248.70. “No doubt this would cause severe distress to the victim,” he said. “People do go to jail for this but because you’re young and have a minimal record I’m prepared to fine you. Once it’s out there there’s no way you can get it back.”
