Donation drive for family of late Geraldton boxing trainer Paul Barrett raises more than $14,000 in four days
A fundraiser for the family of Paul Barrett, the beloved boxing coach and promoter who died late last month, has received generous donations totalling $14,454 in four days.
A GoFundMe page was created last Sunday to raise money for the Barrett’s family, his wife Emma, five-year old son Declan and two-year-old daughter Abbie.
The fundraiser’s organiser, Rickie Glegg, said Barrett was a well-loved member of the community who supported others generously, and now others wanted to give back.
“He did so much for the community, with charity boxing events where all the money went to charity, he was just a really selfless person, nothing was about him it was always about other people, he would give the shirt off his back if he could,” he said.
“He’s got a young family, a five-year-old and a two-year-old, they’ve going to need a lot of support going forward as well.”
Mr Glegg said it wasn’t a surprise to see the community was so eager to support the Barrett family.
“Its not a surprise to me, Paul gave a lot to the community and people want to give back to Emma and the kids,” he said.
Barrett’s funeral will take place at 9:30am on Friday, December 9 at Geraldton Crematorium.
