Geraldton boxers were back in action over the weekend, with Skybox fight team back in Perth.

Boxers Sarah Butler and Shareef Mohammad travelled down to the Serbian Club with coaches Jack Clifford and Mick Brydon.

Both fights were close decisions as the fighters came up against quality boxers ringside and observers felt both fights could have gone either way.

Shareef went up against Abas Haji in the 54kg youth intermediate division — a much taller southpaw opponent, who pushed him at every opportunity.

The young scrapper managed to have enough in the tank to keep the pressure on through all three rounds.

He kept busy, letting his hands go, and securing victory by delivering an eight count in the third round in a showcase of pace and skill.

Sarah showed her class in a competitive match against Jayde Lindley in the senior novice 75kg division.

She managed to secure a very narrow win against a more brawling style of fighter.

Sarah was pleased with her performance, particularly after such a long gap between fights.

“It was tight, she very much wanted just to get in and brawl but of the two of us I had the sharper shots,” she said.

“Overall very happy, first fight back after a few months off, some improvements made and always nice to take the win.”

Her coaches were pleased with her performance.

“She has learnt from it (previous bouts), each and every time — always coming back to the gym to learn and improve on the little things — her grit and determination, once she steps through the ropes, is never in question,” they said.

“This discipline is what carries her from training to competition, with the composure and demeanour of a well-respected athlete. Always a class act Sarah.”

Clifford said he could not be prouder of his two fighters.

“I’m extremely proud of the two of them they train so hard constantly throughout the year, it’s a pleasure to be in their corner and watch them perform so well.”
