Double grand slam at Geraldton Badminton championships

A rare feat was achieved as the men’s and women’s titles were dominated by two grand slam winners. Abdul Wahhab completed the badminton grand slam winning his first ever men’s singles title and his first grand slam (singles, doubles and mixed doubles) at the 2022 Geraldton Championships held at the end of August. Michelle McDonald took out the grand slam across the women’s titles for an incredible eighth time. No other player man or woman has completed a grand slam more than twice while it is just the third time a grand slam has been achieved by a man and woman in the same championships. The other two occasions also involved McDonald, with Bodie Woolcott in 2000 and in 2018 with Matthew Glynn.
